Businessman, public figure.
One of the best indicators of the morality of a wealthy person is his attitude towards subordinates?
It’s not for me to judge my morality. It would be more honest to ask the people who are with me 24 hours a day … My bodyguards, for example. But I can definitely say that you need to treat your subordinates the way you would like them to treat you.
Security officer: “It would have been better if you asked this question when the boss is not around. Otherwise, it may seem that this is flattery or slyness. I will say this: to understand who Gabriel Anatolyevich is, you need to spend at least a week with him. This is a very profound and kind person. When I came to work for him, I had no goal of staying long on this job. I thought I’d give it a try for a month and, if I don’t like it, leave. But after a week it became clear to me that I would be staying. And now I’ve been on the same job for 10 years. We’ve been through a lot. And there were many situations when the guys and I, and Gabriel Anatolyevich himself, were able to prove our devotion, loyalty, respect and human attitude. It means a lot.
What would you never waste your time on?
On hate. It takes too much time and energy. It really isn’t worth it. If life hasn’t played a game with you the way you would like it to, just replay it. But don’t give up on this game called Life. We already have too little time to enjoy it.
“The rich can also be seen crying.” What are the rich laughing about?
You know, there is an old riddle:
An inscription on a rock makes the rich cry. When the poor read it, they rejoice. When lovers read it, they begin to appreciate every moment spent together. What does it say?
And the answer is “Everything is temporary”.
Nothing in this world is permanent and you need to appreciate every minute you live, every moment.
What is the most ridiculous request for help you have ever received?
A healthy man, with his head in the right place, with arms and legs, asked me for financial help. This is more than ridiculous. I believe that every man should work and earn money.
Common qualities that unite you and your father?
I am very different from my father, but as much as we are different, we are so similar, especially in perseverance in achieving the set goal. My father devoted his work to the oil industry, but I’m more interested in trying myself in different fields. And yet we worked with my father for 10 years, and during this period he taught me a lot. I respect him for his hard work, but I also find him too categorical at certain points.
Can you comment on the rumors that your father gave you $ 1 million to develop / create a business? Was there any help from your father?
This is not true (laughing). Many people wonder where I got the money when I was 21. I can definitely say that I earned this money myself and it was not a million, but much more. My father did not participate in my projects and still does not participate.
Is solar energy not developing yet because the sun does not belong to oil companies?
Humanity first of all belongs to God. We have always used the Sun, lived and will continue living off solar energy. It warms the Earth, sets rivers in motion, plants grow under its rays, which in turn feed animals. And it is thanks to the Sun that reserves of oil, coal and peat have been accumulated on Earth, which we are now actively burning. So the sun is one of the few things that cannot be bought. But, of course, this is our future. Today, no one disputes the fact that carbon resources are being depleted. If the search for alternative energy sources is not successful, then the prospects for our civilization, to put it mildly, are not great.
Are you afraid of death?
I am a true believer and am not afraid of death. I am trying to live with dignity as long as I have been given and leave only good things behind on this Earth.
According to statistics, a lot of rich people, having lost their wealth, commit suicide. What is your opinion on this matter?
I was not always rich, but my life has always made sense. It is not money that makes me self-sufficient. And if I had lost everything, I would have had the strength of mind and faith to start all over again.
What is the main commandment that you will teach children?
Do not steal! If they are smart, they will never steal anything. They have enough upbringing and skills to independently get everything they need.
“A golden child accustomed to living in luxury from the cradle?”
Nothing like this. I was not born with a silver spoon in my mouth. I lived like all normal children. My childhood was spent in the Old Post District. We all played in the yard, fought, went crazy. I was always short, sporting the Swedish boy haircut, but even then I was a big urchin and could always defend myself. I remember with great nostalgia our family dinners, which were mandatory for the whole family, including all our relatives, no less than 16 people. Discipline was encouraged in our family. My dad was strict and mom was loving, but they worked hard. I spent most of my time with my grandmother. She was the only person who allowed me everything, and it was her who instilled in me a sense of gratitude and sympathy for those who need help. Therefore, when I started earning enough, I began to help those in need. However, when you see a young girl or child dying of cancer, it is difficult to put up with reality and you realize that money is not omnipotent.
Was the attempt to get involved in politics necessary for self-affirmation, in order to prove something to yourself or to society?
In no case. For a long time, quite serious people called me to apply myself in this field, but I refused. I never really wanted to get involved in politics, and already when I decided to take this step, it was deliberate and independent. Therefore, I was absolutely calm about not getting into parliament. I think that fate has protected me from what is not mine.
Can you comment on Stalin’s phrase: “You either kill or forgive!”?
Stalin was right! Evil and hatred destroys a person from the inside. You can’t keep it within.
Is it ok to do terrible things to people with impunity, then?
Life is the very first and most important teacher, but sometimes because of our mistakes we have to pay too high a price. For everything I did in my life, I had to pay. This is the law of the Universe: every action is followed by retribution, and it depends on you what it will be. Don’t try to get something for free, as you will pay 100 times more. Before you do something, you need to think about the consequences, because it is impossible to buy your way out of life … it charges too much for its lessons.
What have you learned from your parents?
From my father – not to look back and to go forward. From my mom – kindness. My mom is my darling angel, and my father was very lucky to have her.
When won’t love save the world?
When it will really be gone. Love rules the World.
What is every man afraid of?
To be a burden to others. To lose faith in yourself. It is important for any man to know that he is omnipotent, that he can shoulder the burden of responsibility for his loved ones and not disappoint them. It is important for me to know that they believe in me.
Is a stupid person happy because he does not know about his stupidity?
Stupid people are generally the happiest people. They are alienated from the awareness of reality and responsibility to themselves and others. That is why they live in joy.
At the moment, a tourist flight to Space costs only $ 250,000. Given this opportunity, would you like to go to Space?
What for? I can afford it, but why? I already have enough adrenaline and emotions in my everyday life. But if I ever will want to, I will go on this type of journey, weighing all the pros and cons.
“Is it better to die standing than live on your knees?”
I don’t think I would ever kneel in front of anyone. You need to live with dignity and die the same way.
Fear not the dead, but the living?
If you leave the living alone, the dead will do nothing to you.
What is the difference between a “Moldovan” and all other nationalities?
I do not divide people into nationalities. As for us, we, Moldovans, are peaceful and a very good-natured people. We are ready to accept, understand and be patient a lot. There is no natural aggression in us. But there is a limit to everything … and if you need to fight back, then we will go to the end. But, I repeat, as a people we are very peaceful, kind and hospitality is in our blood. And of course – beautiful. Our people are very beautiful.
Why did you agree to do this interview?
Because I liked you.
What is the most absurd thing in your life?
There were a lot of them. Now I will not enumerate everything, but I can say that I do not regret anything in my life and have never regretted it.
What is your state of mind at the moment?
I am an optimist by nature. Always inspired by new ideas. I have several projects in development, but I don’t forget to relax with close friends, especially since it’s summer.
